SUMMARY:Tea & Talk Series: “Signed\, Sealed\, Delivered – The 6888th WAC”
DESCRIPTION:The Wood County Museum welcomes Molly Sampson from the Maritime Museum of Sandusky\, to be the speaker for the upcoming Tea & Talk Series on April 10th\, 2:00PM\, at the Wood County Museum\, 13660 County Home Road\, Bowling Green\, Ohio. \nThe April tea is titled “Signed\, Sealed\, Delivered: The 6888th WAC” and is a discussion about the remarkable story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion\, the first Black Women’s Army Corps (WAC) unit sent overseas during World War II. Tasked with organizing and delivering millions of pieces of undelivered mail\, these 855 women transformed postal operations in the European Theater\, ensuring that Americans serving overseas received critical morale-boosting letters from home. \nIn addition to their logistical success\, the women of the 6888th faced unique challenges. They confronted racism and sexism both within the Army and in society at large while also battling for respect and recognition as soldiers in the WAC. Their service went beyond the well-known Double Victory campaign for civil rights and democracy abroad\, achieving what can be called a “Triple Victory”. \nThis lecture will explore the creation of the 6888th\, the challenges of segregation\, the influential individuals and organizations advocating for their deployment\, and their groundbreaking accomplishments in Europe. Join us to learn about these trailblazing women’s lasting impact and legacy. \nOnce again\, the Museum is partnering with The Summer Kitchen. The featured tea selection is called Lemon Pound Cake: If you love lemon\, have we got a tea for you! Our Lemon Pound Cake tea has a subtle creaminess bursting with citrus notes and delicate amaretto flavors. \nReservations and payment need completed by Sunday\, April 6th. There are two methods for payment. Either call 419-352-0967 and museum staff can assist or visit woodcountyhistory.org to pay online. \nAdmission includes tea and light refreshments by local caterer So Many Somethings Desserterie out of Perrysburg\, Ohio\, and program. Member pricing is $25\, while non-member and special diet meals (gluten free/vegan) are $30. All ticket sales are final and non-refundable. \nThis program is part of the 2025 Tea & Talk series hosted by the Wood County Museum.  A complete list of teas and other programs can be found at woodcountyhistory.org

SUMMARY:Film Screening: My Name Is Andrea
DESCRIPTION:Film Screening of My Name is Andrea\, a documentary about the life and work of Andrea Dworkin. \nMy Name is Andrea is the story of controversial feminist writer and public intellectual Andrea Dworkin\, who offered a revolutionary analysis of male supremacy with iconoclastic flair. Decades before #MeToo\, Dworkin called out the pervasiveness of sexism and rape culture\, and the ways it impacts every woman’s daily life. \nThis program is designed for adults. The presentation contains images intended for mature audiences that some may consider explicit. \nIndividuals under the age of 17 will be granted admission to the program if accompanied by a parent or guardian. \nDoors open at 6 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. \nThe Steinem Sisters Collection champions women’s historical\, cultural\, and political contributions and strives to provide a welcoming space for women from all walks of life to share their truths. It is composed of “feminist materials\,” intersectional works that uphold human and women’s rights and interests in defining and promoting political\, economic\, personal\, and social equality of the sexes\, races\, classes\, sexual orientations\, and genders. The Steinem Sisters Collection has grown to over 900 titles in the ten years since its inception. Regular programming\, including book discussion groups and talking circles\, aims to highlight the collection and build community. This collection was made possible due to a generous donation by The Steinem’s Sisters Collective.
