SUMMARY:Ruysch in the Round: Music Inspired by Art
DESCRIPTION:Come to the Great Gallery and experience an enchanting evening of music and art as the Toledo Alliance for the Performing Arts presents Ruysch in the Round. This special performance celebrates the beauty of nature through music\, inspired by Rachel Ruysch: Nature into Art\, the Toledo Museum of Art’s exhibition dedicated to the legendary Dutch still-life painter. Featuring a string quartet with an extensive repertoire spanning from the late 1600s to the present day\, this program includes works by renowned women composers\, as well as pieces that evoke the floral and botanical themes central to Ruysch’s artistry. The performance will weave together compositions that reflect the lush\, intricate\, and sometimes surreal arrangements found in Ruysch’s paintings. Following the performance\, members of the curatorial team will be available in the galleries to offer insights and engage in discussion about the exhibition\, providing a deeper appreciation for the connections between music and visual art. \n\nA Few Highlights of the Evening’s Program:Antonio Vivaldi: Selections from The Four SeasonsÉlisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre: Three MinuetsLili Boulanger: From an Old GardenClaude Debussy: Clair de LuneLouis Armstrong: What a Wonderful World\n\nAn unforgettable evening where music and art intertwine\, offering a multi-sensory experience that brings Ruysch’s world to life through sound.

After the band’s disbandment\, Julian re-emerged as a solo artist and leader of the Julian Taylor Band\, delivering fan-favorite albums like Tech Noir and Desert Star\, which showcased his genre-blending mastery.\nHis breakthrough moment as a solo artist came with his 2020 album The Ridge\, a stunning acoustic collection that earned two JUNO Award nominations\, a Polaris Music Prize nod\, and the Canadian Folk Music Award for Solo Artist of the Year. Critics praised its heartfelt lyrics and warm\, soulful vocals\, which offered comfort and connection during challenging times. Taylor’s 2022 album Beyond the Reservoir continued his trajectory\, exploring themes of resilience and growth with a richly layered sound. It received acclaim with additional JUNO\, Native American Music Award\, and Ontario Folk Music Award nominations\, cementing his place as one of Canada’s most distinctive voices.\nWith his heartfelt music and magnetic stage presence\, Julian Taylor creates an unforgettable live experience.
